Our Project

Mekong Institute (MI) has been implementing a long-term project on the Regional and Local Economic Development – East West Economic Corridor (RLED-EWEC) since 2013 with the support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Under this project intervention framework, MI planned to upgrade the EWEC Business Database (www.ewecbiz.com), which was developed and launched by MI in 2012 with support from the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) to promote trade and investment along the EWEC.

The website is expected to be improved with relevant information not only as a business database but also as a dynamic Business-to-Business (B2B) E-platform to promote SMEs and their products through e-commerce. The scope of work will include re-design of the website, add relevant trade and investment data from two additional provinces (Khammouane and Nakornpranom provinces) of the EWEC being supported under the RLED-EWEC project and update the information of all the rest of 9 provinces and 2 cities along EWEC.

With a view to explore possible solutions to improve the functionality and sustainability of the EWEC database, Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) department, MI has initiated several discussions on different aspects of this database upgrade and inclusion of e-commerce platform.

The objectives of the EWEC Business Database and Business-to-Business (B2B) platform are:

• To provide a business networking platform for SMEs to access regional and global market and enhance trade and investment in the corridor
• To make local products and services development more responsive to the needs in the regional market through diversified mainstream businesses and networking;
• To provide and enhance business outreach to enterprises and investors through an effective information sharing mechanism with the latest trade and investment updates and technical support; and
• To improve diversification and the cross-fertilization of ideas and initiatives through an increase in member and non-member registration in the Forum.
